Complaints book
The restaurant keeps the official complaints book (livro de reclamações) on the premises, at your disposal. Ask any member of staff for it and it must be handed to you straight away.
There is also an electronic version you can fill in from home, without coming back, at www.livroreclamacoes.pt. The complaint goes to the regulator or supervisory body for the sector, and reaches us as well, so that we can answer you.
Alternative dispute resolution bodies
In a consumer dispute you may turn to an alternative dispute resolution body, which examines the case out of court, in a simpler and faster way and at low or no cost. Given where the restaurant is, the body with territorial competence is the Algarve consumer arbitration centre.

How the process works
The consumer files the complaint with the centre, in writing or through the form on the body's website. The centre first tries to bring the parties together, by mediation or conciliation. Failing agreement, the case may go to arbitration, and the decision of the arbitral tribunal carries the same weight as a judgment of an ordinary court.
Turning to these centres is the consumer's choice and does not bar you from going to court. Except where the law imposes arbitration, the restaurant's participation depends on its acceptance, case by case.
